10,000 Reasons

I sit here with my second cup of coffee to start out my music week with students. I am listening to the following song written and sung by Matt Redman, a song that has been popular lately on Christian radio.    ( I do not listen to Christian radio unless it’s internet classic Christian without commercials.) It was introduced by our youth to our church family yesterday.  It is simple and beautiful.

Matt Redman tears the house down around midnight

It has been running through my head since we first heard it.  don’t know why some songs speak to me.  Others I literally have to ‘put up with’ in order to get through them.  I am very picky when it comes to music.  And although I listen to any genre and decade of music – it has to be really good before I like it.  This goes for classical – to classic rock and everything in between.  Unless a song really speaks and moves me – it is just noise.

Enjoy this great song – have a great day as you reflect on your own reasons.  If you love the song like I do – you will have this tune following you all day :)

God Bless

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy nameThe sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

[Chorus x2]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name

Broken Hearted

If you have been following this season’s X Factor USA – you will know this young lady, Carly Rose Sonenclar. She is in a class of her own – and she is 13 years old. I know we’ll be hearing much more of her too!

Toxic

I’ve been impressed with this young lady since she made her debut on “The Voice”.  Her name is Melanie Martinez and I have a feeling we’ll be hearing her much more from now on.

The New Nat King Cole

My favorite moment from last night’s X-Factor – when Simon said that Daryl Black was like a young Nat King Cole. If you missed this amazing audition, here it is again.

Enjoy and God Bless!

Lasso The Moon For You

Art Garfunkel (of the famous 60’s and 70’s due, Simon and Garfunkel) came out with a CD “From a Parent to a Child” in 1997, featuring many beautiful love songs including this next one which I have always loved.  I have enjoyed listening to it on a CD in my car and also on Spotify while doing work in my office.

Enjoy this special song!

God Bless

If I were a carpenter
I’d build a world of love
where we would always be together
If i were the captain of
a ship of happiness
I’d sail away with you forever
Close your eyes
and know you are safe with me
If I had a lariat
made of dreams come true
I would lasso the moon for you
If I were a rocketeer
I’d scale the universe
to bring your heart a star each
morning
If I were an angel in
heaven’s holy host
I’d sing to you a verse of glory
Close your eyes
and know you are safe with me
If I had a lariat
made of dreams come true
I would lasso the moon for you.

You’re All I Need To Get By

Last night I was watching the new musical show called “Duets” and heard this great duet as made famous by the late Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye.  I had to look it up and post it for you to enjoy today.  There are many music videos of this song on youtube – but I think this is the nicest one – what a GREAT song!!

It’s a funny thing – how listening to a certain melody or some past lyrics in a forgotten song,  can totally transport me to an earlier time and circumstance.

The year was 1968 – I was 7 years old.  I used to watch a television show that would feature different popular artists in the 60’s.  My favorite song was “Up, up and away” by the 5th dimension.  I thought it was important to have a favorite song, even when I was 7 – so that was it.  And only because I saw them perform that song on television.  I’m sure that I must have also heard “You’re all I need to get by” on that same program because I am almost sure that it is on that show where I first heard it.  But if I’m wrong about that detail it would have been when moving to Seattle from Canada in 1969 and I listened to top 40 hits on a little transistor radio.

Do you remember it?  Where were you when you first heard it?  Take a listen and see if it doesn’t take you back.

Keep Me In Your Heart

Last night Greg and I watched the goodbye episode of the weekly drama “House“.  We have watched this program from the beginning – all 8 seasons and have loved the acting, story lines, chemistry between the actors and good music choices for the story each week.  If you saw the finale – you no doubt will recall the special song played at the end called “Keep Me In Your Heart” written and sung by the late Warren Zevon when he learned he had terminal cancer.  It brought a very emotional ending to a much beloved character played by Hugh Laurie.  And while the song was playing, different scenes from the many actors were shown – it was really beautiful.  Here is the song – hope you enjoy it.

Shadows are falling and I’m running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile

If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for awhile

There’s a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sometimes when you’re doing simple things
around the house
Maybe you’ll think of me and smile

You know I’m tied to you like the buttons on
your blouse
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver’s headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for awhile

These wheels keep turning but they’re running out
of steam
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Keep me in your heart for awhile

We’ve Got Tonight – sung by Phillip Phillips

Last night an incredible thing happened on a program with almost 2 hours of disappointing song choices and performances. This young man saved the best performance of the night as he sang “We’ve Got Tonight”. His control and emotion while delivering this – just blew me away. Take a listen and see if you don’t agree. At the end of the day after all the vocal acrobatics and screaming – it is so nice to have someone just sing the beautiful melody of this song – which has always been one of my favorites.  I think Bob Seger must be proud :)We've Got Tonight

Take care and God Bless

On A Clear Day

Driving to Seattle on a clear day is very revealing.  It shows me what I’ve been missing all the other days of the year.  The things that are there, yet hidden.  The Cascade Mountains, for one.  Suddenly I’m aware that my world isn’t so small after all – and just beyond my ability to perceive them lies untold beauty.

How many times are we like a cloudy, rainy day in our thoughts – going along through the day with all the correct motions and intentions, and yet perceiving our world as much smaller than it really is.

I was challenged to take a lesson from nature – open up my eyes and LOOK around me – for things I cannot see with my natural limited senses.  I want to reach far beyond the box of “normal” and see with God eyes all the beauty I’m missing.

I thought of the song “On a clear day you can see forever” and was reminded that it is clearness in both our eyes and thoughts that can give us that unique perspective on things around us.  And I want to always remember what is invisible when the storms of life close in on me and I cannot see.

Dear Lord – help me to hang on to that clear vision from those clear days – and to use it when those tough times close in around me.

When was the last time you saw things with “clear vision”?

I heard the following song on Spotify today from a local Seattle band – and have been writing this article with this tune in my head.

Enjoy and God Bless

Tell me somethin’, give me hope for the night
We don’t know how we feel
We’re just prayin’ that we’re doin’ this right
Though that’s not the way it seems

Summer gone, now winter’s on its way
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
Oh, I’ll miss the days we had

Loving, leaving, it’s too late for this now
Such esteem for each has gone
Has time driven our season away?
Cause that’s the way it seems
In the world of the speech that is new
I’ll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I’ll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I’ll be back again to stay

Loving Me

OK Now

OK Now (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I heard this song while doing some work at my desk this morning. I’ve heard it before – I love Jon McLaughlin and have many of his songs on my Spotify favorites list – but somehow I never really heard these lyrics as powerfully as today. Maybe I needed to hear it today – maybe you do too.

God Bless

Open up the center of my being
There’s gotta be some room inside of me
I’m tired of trying to find a way to make it through these endless days

Complacency is not enough for me
Constant thoughts of where I ought to be plague me
How could I be a fool so long when the only way I live at all

Is You’re loving me
It’s Your grace that’s so amazing
It’s You’re loving me

I’ve tried to push distractions from my head
Oh, I try and try but find myself mislead
for I need Your hand to clear this road
I know I cannot bear this load

I run until I run right out of breath
And only a fool would run from what he knows is best
For Without Your hand to guide I know
There’s loneliness there’s never growth
But still I try, I fail all on my own
But through it all

You’re loving me
It’s Your grace that’s so amazing
It’s your loving me

So open up any door for me
And watch me walk again
I give up all fear and reluctance to depend
And when I fall down again, Your rules they never bend
You pick me up anyway

Cause You’re loving me
It’s Your grace that’s so amazing
You’re loving me
