I remember where I was 24 years ago tonight. I was in a room in a hospital in New Castle, PA – getting ready for 5 hours of hard labor to have my first-born child – Ashlee Renee. I went into labor on her due date of August 5th and she was born at 2:27 am on August 6, 1987.
So much has changed since I was 26 years old. We’ve lived an entire lifetime since then – crisscrossed the country a couple of times and have finally wound up back in the Pacific Northwest.
Everything about life changes when you have a baby – our doctor told Greg and me that we would enter the hospital as two people – and leave as three. Our life really changed and we discovered that Ashlee was the new boss of our home – deciding when she would eat and sleep – and most often in those first few months – she was at an opposite schedule – so NO ONE slept much. I remember not minding – she was precious and I had prayed for a girl and she was PERFECT.
Happy Birthday, Ashlee – you will be 24 in 6 hours!
Where were you 24 years ago today?
God Bless!

Great pictures, Cindy! And a late Happy Birthday to Ashlee Renee!
Very cute! 24 years ago I was 8 years old. I was living in Kansas and that’s all I remember.
Yup – rub it in Rob! Let’s see – you’re almost young enough to be my son – I don’t know If I like that!
Happy Birthday to her! Cute pictures!
Thanks Dustin!
Tell her happy birthday!
I will Duane – happy birthday to you too
Happy birthday to your daughter a day late. Those pictures are GREAT! What a blessing God has given you. May your family be blessed with many great years and birthdays…
You’re not late – her birthday is today, August 6th. I was writing about it last night because it was when I went into labor with her
Thanks so much Floyd – by the way – I mention you and your blog all the time on google+ – can’t wait til you are officially on there – I don’t even think you’re on facebook or twitter – you’re one of the die hard “old schoolers”
I am on facebook, although, just the personal one, not the business one. I’ll have to figure out how to get on twitter this week. Can’t wait to get on google, just waiting to hear from them. It’s not so much that I’m a die hard old schooler as I am a “dumb-hard-old-schooler”!
I don’t know exactly where I was, but it was a year after I graduated high school and I’d finished a course at the community college…so, no doubt I was looking for work, or something like that.
Happy birthday to your daughter!
Thanks Shelley!
I was standing by the phone waiting for the news that Ashlee had finally been born…for years before, I had had an uneasy feeling that I was forgetting someone’s birthday on August 6th but no one owned up to that date…until, little Ashlee was born. It was still August 5th on the west coast but it was August 6th on the east. So, now the mystery was complete and forever August 6th was a legitimate birthday date for the whole family. Happy Birthday, Ashlee.
Much love,
Aunt Wendy
Yes – I remember you saying that! And what it took for you to get those “free” tickets to come to New Castle! You were even on the local news!
Cindy, what a small world! I lived in New Castle in 1977. And interestingly enough, my mom is 26 years older than me.
Happy birthday to your daughter!
Really? You lived there? That is a small world! Which church did you attend? – we were on staff at the Assembly of God church – Greg was a youth pastor there for about 2 years.
I wasn’t raised in church–so we didn’t attend one in New Castle. We only lived there about six months, and then my dad was transferred to Arizona.
Happy Birthday! Wonderful pictures – and what a blessing. God bless you and your family.
Thanks so much Michael!
This is very sweet! And you are right, Cindy, our babies become the new boss of our homes…and that’s not a bad thing at all!!
No – it’s not! I loved having both my little bossy things
They were worth it!
I was getting ready to start first grade.
In a couple weeks, we’ll be expanding to a family of three as well.
Oh Ricky – not you too! Good grief that makes me – old enough to be you MOM!! I don’t think I like that.
Yeah – were you even BORN yet Stephen?? I think you were probably still in diapers or something – I know you weren’t very old!
HEY HEY HEY THERE LADY. I was fully 3 years old, thank you! Pretty sure I was potty trained by then! (I think.) LOL.
I’m not SAYING A WORD Stephen – nope NOT ONE WORD. LOL!!!
So sweet! Love the pictures, too. And I would tell you where I was 24 years ago, but I already get enough crap about being so young to be a lead pastor, so I won’t. LOL
