I heard this song sung by Haley this last week on American Idol – and I was really impressed with it. So I looked it up on youtube to hear the original artist singing it. Adele has an AMAZING voice and reminds me so much of Wynonna Judd – with that raspy, sultry color in her voice. Adele is from London and I love her speaking accent – although there is no trace of an accent when she sings.
This song is born out of Adele’s own experience with a broken relationship – but it is also her cry of resolution and resignation - finding she had the inner strength to endure – did not let a broken heart keep her down – and finally – the ability to move on and say, figuratively speaking, “Is that all you got”? If you’ve ever been through something with someone – you will be able to identity with the lyrics. Why oh Why – did I not think of these lyrics? They’re really terrific! Great song!
Enjoy and God Bless!
There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bring me out the dark,
Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and a I’ll lay your ship bare,
See how I’ll leave with every piece of you,
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do,
There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bring me out the dark,
The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can’t help feeling,
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I’ve heard one on you and I’m gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Make a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared,
The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
I can’t help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside of your hands,
But you played it with a beating,
Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You’ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you’ve sown,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
Could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

19 was a pretty good album, but I had some problems with 21. You should give my article a read – http://eightrackmind.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/adeles-21-why-48-minutes-is-excessive-for-a-lovers-spat/. I always appreciate feedback…
Hey thanks for finding me! I read your article on Adele – it was great! I have a student who loves Adele music and is singing 4 or 5 of her songs – they’re great – but you’re right – a little dark and melancholy. Lucky for me – I like music like that

This caught my attention because Adele is one of my favorite artists. LOVE her voice! It made me look up a blog I wrote over a year ago about marriage as it relates to her song, “Chasing Pavements.” You’ve got to hear this song if you haven’t already (one of my faves). http://www.chickswithchoices.com/about/blog/chasing-pavements.html
Thanks Kim – I will check that out – I love her too!
Are the background lyrics (You’re gonna wish you never had met me, Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep) also Adele? It kind of seems like a sample from another artist, but there is no evidence of this anywhere on the web…
No idea! Good question though – I love these lyrics – I’m sure most of us can relate to them, right? Thanks for stopping by, Andrew!
Very powerful song! I hadn’t heard it before.
If I remember from my choir days, high sopranos not only don’t have an accent, but they don’t pronounce much of the word. It’s pretty much all vowels.
Agreed – when it’s very high – all you CAN do is the vowel sounds.
That is definitely a great song Cindy. Why is it that when people sing they tend to lose their accent and sound “American?”
It’s not always true – sometimes you can hear the accent from “Coldplay” and remember the band “Keane”? In the song “Somewhere Only We Know” you can definitely hear the accent on the word ‘branches’ sounding like ‘brahnches’ very cute! I don’t know why you can’t hear it with Adele – it’s interesting.
